As a young saxophonist, Costar spent a lot of time near the stereo system, playing along with his father’s old jazz records. At the age of eighteen the jazz records had to make way for club compilations. In the Amsterdam club scene Costar went looking for deejays, brave enough to mix up their sets with live saxophone improvisation.
In 1997 Costar met dj Joost van Bellen in the legendary club RoXY in Amsterdam. That same night they surprised everyone with a spontaneous and impressive live collaboration. Costar’s playing caught the attention of some influential people in the Dutch dance scene, resulting in an incredible performance on Dancevalley Festival main stage, a couple of months later. Costar’s career, as a house saxophonist, had got off to a flying start.
In the meantime other deejays also got inspired by this new mix of live saxophone and house music. Within a short period of time Costar performed with DJs such as Afrojack, Hardwell, Laidback Luke, Sidney Samson, Ron Caroll, Fedde Le Grand, Axwell (Swedish House Mafia), Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Kevin Saunderson and many more.
His significant part in the closing ceremonies of both Mysteryland (2009) and Lief Festival (2013) undoubtedly contributed to his success.
With gigs in the UK, Germany, France, Monaco, Scandinavia, Russia, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Curaçao and Ibiza, Costar’s fame is rising.
